What is a mole?

A mole is a birthmark made of point cells, a type of benign tumor caused by the proliferation of melanocytes that create skin color. Also an element that creates a character and impression of a person's appearance, and also affects interpersonal relationships.

Some moles may become malignant due to prolonged stimulation or exposure to ultraviolet rays, so it is recommended to be careful of too strong sunlight and ultraviolet rays

Embryological abnormalities of cells, genetic factors, and UV exposure can cause moles.

A mole is a melanocytic nevus, because it is a disease in which abnormal melanocytes proliferate deep in the epidermal and dermal layers.

Should be treated elaborately by selectively destroying melanin pigment.

Large Moles 

Among the moles on the face, the one that worries people is the large mole (inner dermal nevus).

The large mole is an overgrowth of melanocytes, and the color varies from flesh to black. Also may have the appearance of raised papules.

The area is so wide that it is difficult to cover even with makeup, and if it protrudes like a lump or wart, it will be more noticeable. 

Clear skin has an important impact on the first impression regardless of gender or age.

Therefore, if there is a large mole on the face, it may even affect interpersonal relationships.

How to Treat?

Co2 laser is mainly used for the treatment of large spots.

Less removal of moles (not fully)  may leave a messy bluish lesion called the Tyndall effect.

Large spots are not easy to remove

Therefore, there are many cases in which the mole is not completely removed even after undergoing multiple treatments, and the treatment is abandoned.

In order to cleanly remove the king spot, the root must be removed with each treatment.

Surgery may be considered for removal of moles, but most moles are treated well with laser.

The surgery makes deep incisions in the dermis, so it can leave scars.

The primary treatment is laser, and if unsatisfactory, surgery is recommended.

Dressing after mole removal

After the scar removal procedure, the skin in the affected area is dented, and thereafter, an airtight dressing is applied to ensure proper regeneration.

In most cases, the period of occlusive dressing is about 7 to 10 days, but if the wound does not heal well, it may take more than 2 weeks

What is an airtight dressing?

It is a wet dressing that covers the treated lesion with Vaseline gauze.

Deep wounds have a lot of ooze, and since ooze has many regenerative ingredients, consuming it as a Duoderm is not good for wound regeneration.

Appropriate pressure during sealing dressing plays an important role in reducing the amount of exudate and leveling the skin surface after regeneration.

Precautions after treatment

In treatment, steroids are not used because they inhibit the critical inflammatory phase of the 4 phases of wound regeneration.

What are the 4 stages of wound regeneration?

​

Hemostasis: Several hours immediately after

Inflammatory phase: 0-2 days (usually around day 1)

Regenerator: 2 days - 2 weeks (usually around day 8)

Maturity: 2 weeks - 6 months (usually around 1 month)

The inflammatory phase around day 1 and the regenerative phase around day 4 are important.

Scar management after treatment​

Most of the scars on the face are treated in one session without any indication.

In some cases, it may leave a slight white scar, but it is not very noticeable.

Areas other than the face are less likely to regenerate the wound, so they are more likely to leave a slight white scar.

However, even if some white scars remain, they do not show much and can be improved through treatment such as Fraxel laser in the future.
